Cult News: Firefly and Riddick ride again

fireflyFirefly will never be another TV show or movie (well… probably not), but that doesn’t mean the adventures have to end.  Dark Horse is starting up a new comic book series this month with Serenity: Leaves on the Wind #1.  The description:

Malcolm Reynolds’s crew shook the ’verse to its core when they laid bare the crimes against humanity undertaken by their sinister government—the Alliance. Always outlaws, Mal, a very pregnant Zoe, new pilot River Tam, and the other surviving crew members are in greater danger than ever. Meanwhile, everyone is asking the same question . . .

Meanwhile, the third Riddick movie is selling well on DVD and Vin Diesel seems to think that a fourth film in the series has been greenlit:

I’m just excited, and happy, and I’m shouting out to you guys to say thank you. Universal just called me and told me Riddick is number one on the DVD charts. There’s no way Riddick would have been made without you guys. You know that. and you guys have been a part of our page since 2012 and remember how arduous a road it was to get the movie made, and to make it rated ‘R,’ and to do it with such a low budget. It’s a win for all of us and I really, really thank you so much.  Yeah, I’m excited, and of course, Universal’s also saying they want to develop the next one.

  1. You can go look at the comment I posted on the Serenity review to see why found the movie such a colossal disappointment. This new comic book sounds like it’ll just dig a deeper hole, so I’ll pass.

A somewhat more promising property is the Firefly board game. I saw it being played at MarsCon a couple of weeks ago and it was only budget limitations which kept me from getting a copy at the Dealers’ Room. From the description, the board game emphasizes what I thought was good about the series. Getting jobs, evading the Alliance and Reavers, things not going smooth.
