It’s not THAT bad, really. I saw it a couple years back, and while I wouldn’t describe it as ‘good’, per se, it’s certainly entertaining, and it’s got some catchy musical numbers and good dancing. Basically, if you don’t expect a masterpiece, I’d say it’s worth checking out.

I have to admit, this movie is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I first watched it when I was 12-ish, right after it came out, and I was absolutely in love with Christian Bale. I saw it dozens of times as a teenager and still know all the songs by heart.

I won’t argue that it’s any good, but I still love it, probably mostly from nostalgia. Just reading the quotes above made me smile and want to see it again.

I like this movie, but I handle weird musicals fairly well. (Although I draw the line at “Can’t Stop the Music.”) I think the music is actually pretty good and found this to be a lot of fun. Obviously, mileage varies big-time and with how cheesy you like your musicals.

I’m bummed that Newsies apparently stinks. It is such a great premise. When it was 1st out I badly wanted to see it. Now I am rather glad I did not.

Bad musicals often have that effect on the unwary. Let us pray: lead us not into Xanadu, but deliver us from Can’t Stop The Music.

Heh. Watch the car in Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical. Just one, and nearly everyone drives it. Who thought working aesthetically mint-condition mid-1930′s Packard sedans would be hard to come by in the 21st century.
