It's not THAT bad, really. I saw it a couple years back, and while I wouldn't describe it as 'good', per se, it's certainly entertaining, and it's got some catchy musical numbers and good dancing. Basically, if you don't expect a masterpiece, I'd say it's worth checking out.

I have to admit, this movie is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I first watched it when I was 12-ish, right after it came out, and I was absolutely in love with Christian Bale. I saw it dozens of times as a teenager and still know all the songs by heart.

I won't argue that it's any good, but I still love it, probably mostly from nostalgia. Just reading the quotes above made me smile and want to see it again.

I like this movie, but I handle weird musicals fairly well. (Although I draw the line at "Can't Stop the Music.") I think the music is actually pretty good and found this to be a lot of fun. Obviously, mileage varies big-time and with how cheesy you like your musicals.

I'm bummed that Newsies apparently stinks. It is such a great premise. When it was 1st out I badly wanted to see it. Now I am rather glad I did not.

"...it took Newsies to unleash the beast within."
Bad musicals often have that effect on the unwary. Let us pray: lead us not into Xanadu, but deliver us from Can't Stop The Music.

"He was in the background, in the foreground, tracking left, tracking right, he was EVERYWHERE! Talk about budget constraints."
Heh. Watch the car in Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical. Just one, and nearly everyone drives it. Who thought working aesthetically mint-condition mid-1930's Packard sedans would be hard to come by in the 21st century.
