Sunday Sunrise: Which Harry Potter Movie Is The Best?   6 comments

Although Harry Potter 7.2 won’t come out until next summer, Warner Bros. has seven magical movies under its belt thus far, and we’re curious — which one do you think is the best and why?

  1. Isn’t that a bit like asking which child you hate the most? I have beefs with all of them to one degree or another.

I guess it would be Order of the Phoenix. Umbridge is a great villain and it has some pretty excellent action. Also, I know a -lot- of people despise it, but I really enjoy The Half-Blood Prince, too.

    • Ha! Here’s another vote for OotP, if only beccause this is a case where Adaptation Decay was a good thing. I haven’t seen HBP since I’m given to understand that it focuses on the parts of the book I hated and deletes the stuff I liked most.

  2. The Goblet of Fire is the one that sticks out most in my mind. I am not a super fan of the series, and just started actually reading them this year, but something about that one stayed with me.

  3. I still have a fondness in my heart for the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Harry’s wide eyes as he first experiences the rather peculiar world of magic that has been lying just out of sight from the muggle world … a world he’s never quite fit in and now he knows why.

True, it lacked a lot of the intense action and brooding darkness of the later series but this one seems to draw me into the world of Hogwarts the most.

Also, it is nice to see some of the study of magic occur – in later series (especially the newest one) the kids seem to have been suddenly gifted with doctorates in magic! Given the highly uneven instruction they’ve gotten over the previous six years or so I wouldn’t think they’d be all that well prepared.

  4. It may be too soon to say since I always say each movie is the best after seeing it the first time, but I really loved the first part of DH. It was pretty faithful to the book, and the cuts that were made were sensible for the most part. I only had 3 complaints, and 2 of them were purely stylistic (namely the heavy-handed slow-mo in one scene and annoying shaky-steady cam in another.) On the other hand, there was so much I loved and wanted to cheer out loud for, and even a couple cinematic touches that felt brilliant. That I know at least 2 non-book fans who left the theatre inspired to read the whole series is another definite plus.

Not just a great Harry Potter movie, but a great movie period.

  5. it is very interesting.the man that see harrypotter when they are very like potter movies, etc.
